Our First Garden

We had a bunch of left over fencing taking up space in our garage so we decided to use it to make garden boxes.  We thought that it would be easier to make boxes because our ground it so awful.  It is cement hard and you can’t go an inch without hitting huge rocks.  Grandpa is our hero and he came and made them for us.   Kris and I helped but we never know what we are doing so we probably get in the way more than we help.

We used some of the big rocks we dug out of the yard to make 3 raspberry beds and a strawberry bed in the middle of the boxes.

We lost a few cucumber, watermelon and cantaloupe plants but most of the things we planted survived.  We transplanted the raspberries to late in the season so they all died but we’ll just get more plants from Grandma and Grandpa next spring.

Kade loves vegetables but he has really loved eating food from the garden.  He will not eat strawberries but if he picks one in the garden he will eat it.  So far we have only had one ear of corn.  We cooked it for Kade and after he got the hang of eating it he cried and cried because he wanted more.  He gnawed on the cob for a good 20 minutes.  He likes me to cook him beans for breakfast.

This is documented proof that I got out my mixer and made something.  Kade helped me make zucchini bread with zucchini from our garden.  He and Jaxson ate it all.
