Hot Rocks

Kade’s friend Erin came over to play so I decided to try this with them.  http://eighteen25.blogspot.com/2010/05/summer-craft-ideas-part-two.html

DSC_0264 You put rocks in the oven at 350 for 15 minutes and then let the kids draw on them with crayon.

They absolutely loved it, and I had to keep putting more rocks in the oven.

DSC_0269 DSC_0272 We only had one incident where Erin grabbed her rock.  It was hot but it didn’t burn her and she is tough.   Kade freaked out whenever he got a little crayon on his fingers.  She had it all over her hands, on her cheek and all over her shirt.  Kade looked at her hands and told her that he liked to keep his hands clean.  That’s my little OCD child.

We found that smooth rocks worked the best.

DSC_0280 We also found that if we cooked to many rocks at once that they got cool by the time they were ready to color them so we started to cook fewer at a time.

On this one the white dripped down and Kade said it looked like Blooper from Mario Bros.

DSC_0293 DSC_0295 I made Kade take them outside to play with so they didn’t get crayon all over my house.  He was very worried about them staying out all night.DSC_0303 He calls this one his rock friend.  He named it Rocky of course.

DSC_0316 He called this one Grandma but when Jaxson woke up he took it as his own and called it Mom Rock.DSC_0320

This is the cutest idea! I'm going to do this with my niece next time I see her, looks like a good time at Loertscher's homestead.
