The Closest We Will Ever Get To Being Millionaires

Kris only gets to golf once a year at the Spillman charity golf tournament in Logan. We get a hotel and make a weekend of it. This year we were planning on it but Kris got a phone call saying he won a contest to play in the Mark Eaton charity golf tournament. It included a stay at the Waldorf Astoria hotel in Park City, and he got to participate in the hole-in-one contest at the end of the tournament. The prize was 2 million dollars, so we had a change of plans.  We somehow talked Aunt Kasandra in to coming to stay with the boys and we went to Kamas instead of Logan for Kris' yearly golf excursion.DSC_0002

We had absolutely no illusions about him making the hole-in-one (even though a guy did win it last year) but we were both nervous to the point of being sick. I told him to just make sure to hit the ball. I mean Mark Eaton, Ronnie Price, Ron Boon and the likes were watching, and there were cameras every where so it was very nerve racking.  DSC_0003

DSC_0005Eight of the contestants had been decided by a closest to the pin shot and then there were four people that had won contests to be there. The eight closest to the pin players went first, one of them was Ron Boon. He had finished his practice swings and was swinging his club back to hit the ball when his phone went off in his pocket. It made everyone laugh. When Kris hit I couldn't even watch but once I heard him hit the ball I looked and watched the ball hit the green and land only eight feet away from the hole. He was the second closest to the pin. We were both relieved that it was over and that his ball didn't go into the ravine. Mark Eaton came up to him and hit him on the back and told him it was a great shot. Kris said it almost knocked him over. Everyone knows how tall Mark Eaton is but seeing him in person is an experience. When I first got there he was standing by the entrance and he held the door open for me. I was too embarrassed to look up but I did say thank you to his belly button (he probably couldn't hear me clear down there though).

I didn’t dare take a picture of Kris swinging but this is him walking back after his shot.  On the drive back to the clubhouse from the hole it started to rain and by the time we got down it just started pouring. We had to run to get to cover and in just the short distance from the cart to the clubhouse everyone got completely drenched so we got to go to the dinner sopping wet. At least everyone was wet so we didn't look ridiculous by ourselves. When we went in for dinner I knew I was in trouble when I saw there was no ranch to dip the vegetables in. Kris would say I'm a very picky eater, I would say I just like normal food. I don't like the fancy stuff so Kris knew right away we would be going out to eat when we left. So we were dishing up our food at the same time as Mark Eaton and Kris asked if I wanted some of this orange salad. I said no but he put it on my plate anyway. I guess I don't know how to keep my face expressionless because Mark started telling me what was in it and assured me it was really good. How embarrassing. Kris got the swordfish and I got a steak so Kris could eat it. The orange salad was actually my favorite part but after dinner Kris took me to Ruby Tuesdays. Before we left Kris got brave and went and thanked Mark for an email interview he did for him a while back for his Jazz website.

After dinner at Ruby Tuesdays we went and checked in to the hotel.  It was very luxurious. Kris and I decided we don't belong at such places. When you have to stop at the 7 11 to get cash to tip the valet you know you are out of your league.

This is only one of the bathrooms.  The other one had a bathtub and a TV on the wall.  Even the way you flush was fancy.

As we drove the golf carts off the hole they gave all the contestants back their balls and they also got a framed picture of their teams with Mark Eaton.

Oh man, I can imagine how nerve-racking (sp?) that would have been but the hotel room had to have definitley been worth it!
