More Butterfly Fun

This year we did some projects to learn even more about our butterflies.  Kade cut out some milkweed leaves and glued on noodles to show the different stages of metamorphosis. We used acini de pepe for the eggs, the caterpillar is a corkscrew noodle, the chrysalis is shell pasta, and the butterfly is bowtie pasta.

DSC_0100 (2)We also learned about symmetry.  We looked at lots of pictures of butterflies to see if all their wings were symmetrical, then Kade used stickers and stamps to make his own symmetrical butterfly.  When he was done we taped pennies to the tips of the wings which made it balance on just about anything.

DSC_0126 Kade has been asking me all night if we can do more caterpillar stuff tomorrow.  I think he enjoyed it.

Sounds like he's ready for his 5th grade science fair project! What fun ideas!
